ความชั่วแห่งลิ้นที่ไม่ถูกควบคุม
3:1 พี่น้องของข้าพเจ้า อย่าเป็นอาจารย์กันมากมายหลายคนเลย โดยทราบว่าพวกเราจะได้รับการวิพากษ์วิจารณ์ที่หนักกว่า

Wickedness of an Uncontrolled Tongue
3:1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

3:2 เพราะว่าในหลาย ๆ อย่างพวกเราทำให้คนทั้งปวงขัดเคืองใจ ถ้าผู้หนึ่งผู้ใดมิได้ทำให้ผู้ใดขัดเคืองใจในทางวาจา ผู้นั้นก็เป็นคนดีพร้อมแล้ว และสามารถบังคับทั้งตัวไว้ได้ด้วย

3:2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

3:3 ดูเถิด พวกเราเอาเหล็กบังเหียนใส่ในปากม้าทั้งหลาย เพื่อให้พวกมันเชื่อฟังพวกเรา และพวกเราก็ทำให้ทั้งตัวของพวกมันหันไปมาได้

3:3 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

3:4 จงดูบรรดาเรือด้วยเช่นกัน ซึ่งถึงแม้ว่าพวกมันใหญ่โต และถูกลมแรงพัดแล่นไป แต่พวกมันก็ยังถูกหันไปมาด้วยหางเสือเล็ก ๆ ไปยังที่ไหนก็ตามที่ผู้ควบคุมนั้นบังคับ

3:4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

3:5 เช่นนั้นแหละ ลิ้นก็เป็นอวัยวะเล็ก ๆ และพูดโอ้อวดอ้างการใหญ่ ดูเถิด ไฟนิดเดียวก็เผาไหม้ได้มากสักเพียงใด

3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

3:6 และลิ้นนั้นก็เป็นไฟ เป็นโลกแห่งความชั่วช้า ลิ้นก็เป็นเช่นนั้นท่ามกลางบรรดาอวัยวะของพวกเรา จนมันทำให้ทั้งร่างกายเป็นมลทินไป และเผาไหม้วิถีแห่งธรรมชาติ และมันเองก็ติดไฟแห่งนรก

3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

3:7 ด้วยว่าทุกชนิดของพวกสัตว์เดรัจฉาน และของบรรดานก และของงูทั้งหลาย และของบรรดาสัตว์ในทะเลก็เลี้ยงให้เชื่องได้ และถูกเลี้ยงให้เชื่องแล้วโดยมนุษย์

3:7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

3:8 แต่ลิ้นนั้นไม่มีมนุษย์คนใดสามารถทำให้เชื่องได้ มันเป็นสิ่งชั่วร้ายซึ่งไม่สามารถควบคุมได้ เต็มไปด้วยพิษร้ายถึงตาย

3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

3:9 ด้วยลิ้นนั้นพวกเราสรรเสริญพระเจ้าคือพระบิดา และด้วยลิ้นนั้นพวกเราก็แช่งด่ามนุษย์ ซึ่งถูกสร้างขึ้นตามแบบพระฉายของพระเจ้า

3:9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

3:10 จากปากอันเดียวกันมีคำสรรเสริญและคำแช่งด่าออกมา พี่น้องของข้าพเจ้า สิ่งเหล่านี้ไม่ควรให้เป็นเช่นนั้นเลย

3:10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

3:11 บ่อน้ำพุส่งจากช่องเดียวกันทั้งน้ำจืดและน้ำกร่อยได้หรือ

3:11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

3:12 พี่น้องของข้าพเจ้า ต้นมะเดื่อจะออกผลเป็นมะกอกได้หรือ หรือเถาองุ่นจะออกผลเป็นมะเดื่อได้หรือ เช่นเดียวกันไม่มีบ่อน้ำพุใด ๆ จะให้ทั้งน้ำเค็มและน้ำจืดได้

3:12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

3:13 ผู้ใดเป็นคนมีสติปัญญาและประกอบด้วยความรู้ในท่ามกลางพวกท่านหรือ จงให้ผู้นั้นแสดงจากพฤติกรรมอันดี คือการงานต่าง ๆ ของตนด้วยความนอบน้อมแห่งสติปัญญา

3:13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

3:14 แต่ถ้าพวกท่านมีการอิจฉากันอันขมขื่นและอาการแก่งแย่งกันในใจของพวกท่าน อย่าอวดเลยและอย่าพูดมุสาต่อความจริง

3:14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

3:15 สติปัญญาเช่นนี้ไม่ได้ลงมาจากเบื้องบน แต่เป็นแบบโลก แบบตัณหาราคะ แบบผีปีศาจ

3:15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

3:16 เพราะว่าที่ใดมีความอิจฉากันและการแก่งแย่งกัน ที่นั่นก็มีการวุ่นวายและการงานชั่วร้ายทุกอย่าง

3:16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

3:17 แต่สติปัญญาที่มาจากเบื้องบนนั้นบริสุทธิ์เป็นประการแรก แล้วจึงเป็นความสงบสุข สุภาพและว่าง่าย เปี่ยมด้วยความเมตตาและบรรดาผลอันดี โดยปราศจากความลำเอียง และปราศจากความหน้าซื่อใจคด

3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

3:18 และผลแห่งความชอบธรรมก็ถูกหว่านลงในสันติสุขโดยคนเหล่านั้นที่สร้างสันติสุข

3:18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
